Mardi Gras

16 February 2010
Today is Mardi Gras Day with a lot of excitement all around. We left camp at 7:30 after being given a boxed lunch and lots of cookies to take with us. Pete Fountain and his Half-Fast Walking Club led the parades. This was followed by the Krewe of Zulu Social and Pleasure Club parade. The participants were dressed in colorful and elaborate African costumes. This is a Black Krewe which pokes fun at itself and others with a lot of humor. We got so cold and chilled that we did not stay for the Krewe of Rex Parade nor for the Truck Krewes. These decorate all kinds of trucks from 18 wheelers to pick-ups with various themes. One is the Krewe of Elks-Orleans with the theme “Elks Care-Elks Share”. We were disappointed to have missed these lasts parades but we were chilled to the bone. Back at the RV we took a little nap then had to start packing up to start back home tomorrow. This has been a great week with excitement, education and fun. It was spoiled only by the rain and very cold, windy weather. I guess we don’t own the right clothes for temperatures in the low 30’s with heavy winds! Or we a spoiled Californians!
