Mardi Gras

12 February 2010
Today we visited 2 old plantations, the Destrehan and the San Francisco plantations. They were quite different and both had a lot of interesting history. We were sorry we couldn’t walk around on the grounds because of the rain and cold wind. The rain did stop about noon, but it was cold and windy all day. The high was in the low 30’s. We had a buffet lunch at Armand’s Restaurant. We didn’t get back to the RV until 4:00. Our Bal Masque started at 7:00 PM. They did a beautiful presentation with girls in elaborate dress depicting various parts of the world. We were sorry we didn’t bring our cameras. The food and dance band were very good. Walking back to the RV we took a wrong turn in the dark and had to backtrack. We thought we were going to freeze in the icy wind. It didn’t take long to snuggle up in bed. We were sorry we missed the Olympics Opening Ceremony.
