Mardi Gras

15 February 2010
It is very cold and windy this morning. We were taken to a tour of the Krewe of Throth’s Den. This is where the Krewe keeps the floats from previous years. Many of them will be sprayed white, then repainted with the designs for future themes. It was fun to examine and climb on the floats. After that we went to the New Orleans School of cooking. A very entertaining woman gave demonstrations on Louisiana cooking and history lessons while we ate chicken and andouille gumbo, jambalaya, bananas foster and pralines with a local beer. It was all delicious. After we visited their gift store to buy seasoning mixes including a blend named “Joe’s Stuff”. In the evening we went to the Parades of the Krewes of Proteus and Orpheus. We collected more beads and enjoyed the elaborate floats. It got so cold and windy that we left after the first parade before 9:00.
